Overview

This module seeks to provide a more in-depth understanding for midwifery students and obstetrics-gynecology residents of each other’s role in the US health care system. It covers, for each profession, their formal definitions, educational structures, credentials and scopes of practice, values and what each profession cares about regarding their role. Included are patterns of collaborative practice, appropriate use of language in partnering together, and videos that portray various aspects of collaboration in action.

Objectives

  • Identify the educational pathways and credentialing of midwives and Ob gyns.
  • Identify the scope and values of midwives and Ob gyns, including areas of overlap and differences.
  • Describe patterns of collaborative practice including appropriate use of language in partnering together and with patients in respectful team based care.
