Setting

Baystate Medical Center, located in Springfield, Massachusetts,  is a 716-bed independent academic medical center and the regional campus of the University of Massachusetts Medical School-Baystate.   The Obstetrics Gynecology Residency Program has 6 residents per class and is four years in length.  The Midwifery Education Program has 6 students per class for two year course of study and is the only academic medical center based midwifery education program in the country.  Clinical sites for both programs include Baystate Medical Center  Wesson Women and Infants’; numerous associated outpatient ambulatory office settings; two federally qualified community health centers; Western Massachusetts Women’s Correctional Facility; and four community hospitals.  Additional area practices and hospitals provide clinical placements for Midwifery Education Program students.
